The main areas of research

We work on various aspects of mammal biology. In particular, we focus on the studies of the organization of communities and populations of vertebrate animals inhabiting the different landscape and geographical zones of Siberia. These studies laid the foundations of ideas about animal communities as organized biosystems with different levels of resistance to environmental factors. At the population level, adaptive processes due to climate dynamics and different landscape and environmental conditions are studied. Studies are being conducted to identify the correspondence of morphological and molecular genetic data for use in zoological taxonomy. The main model objects are rodents and insectivores.

Studies on the biology of rare species of birds and mammals are being conducted. The technique for their breeding in captivity is being developed. Based on the data obtained, recommendations on the protection and increase in the abundance in nature of such species as Siberian grouse, white-headed duck, and musk deer are made.

Ecological and faunistic researches are being conducted on the protected areas in Siberia. The work is carried out to inventory the fauna and monitor rare species of mammals.
